COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of heavy oil fundamentals and the associated oil recovery methods. Both thermal and non-thermal enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques are discussed in detail. Participants will learn about steam engineering design and key recovery processes such as Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS), Cold Heavy Oil Production with Sand (CHOPS), Vapor Extraction (VAPEX), and Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD).
This two-day course covers the essential elements involved in the evaluation and development of heavy oil reservoirs from a reservoir engineering perspective. Case studies from more than ten heavy oil reservoirs, representing a range of recovery performances, are presented and analyzed.
The program emphasizes well test interpretation, EOR applications in heavy oil systems, and practical experimental approaches for laboratory evaluation and reservoir simulation. The course is supported by real examples and case histories to reinforce key concepts, methodologies, and field-proven results.
