COURSE OVERVIEW

As the world moves toward a zero-carbon future, deep electrification combined with emerging applications for hydrogen is expected to transform the way we live, work, and conduct business. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is widely regarded as a critical transition technology while renewable energy systems are scaled up globally. Its importance extends beyond power generation. Currently, more than 95% of global hydrogen production relies on fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, meaning CCS can play a vital role in reducing CO₂ emissions associated with hydrogen production.

The hydrogen sector is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years. For example, the United Kingdom has set a target to produce five gigawatts of hydrogen by 2030—a fortyfold increase from current levels. Similar ambitions are emerging worldwide, with national hydrogen strategies increasingly emphasizing the decarbonization of industrial sectors such as construction, steel, and cement.

The transition to a low-emission energy system presents significant challenges and requires continuous innovation. Momentum toward Net Zero is accelerating, compelling industrial sectors to develop and implement practical solutions for decarbonizing their operations.
