COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides participants with the principles and practical approaches for using well logs to construct lithology and facies models. The workshop takes geological interpretation a step further by demonstrating how logs can be effectively applied in facies and sedimentological analyses. Modern subsurface geological evaluation requires a thorough and sophisticated analysis of well log data, and this course emphasizes best practices in this area. The five-day program combines classroom instruction with hands-on exercises. The practical sessions are structured as a case study, beginning with the compilation and interpretation of raw data (including core analysis and well logs), followed by the development of facies models and characterization of flow units, and concluding with the generation of input data for facies and reservoir modeling.

Day 1

  •  Lithophysical Properties of Rocks and Electrometric Models of Facies.

Day 2
  •  Electrometric Models of Facies Unified
  • Correlation of Cross Sections.
  • Sedimentological and Electrometric Models of Facies: Continental, Deltaic, Marine, etc.
  • o   Practicum.
Day 3
  • Reservoirs and seals, their sedimentological and electrometrical models

    Exercise: Interpretation

Day 4
  •  Rhythm-sequence-stratigraphy analysis

    and wells correlation.

  •   Sedimentary environment: Delta, marine shoreface.

  •  Shelf – carbonates and terrigenous sedimentation.

  • Seismic interpretation, attributes analysis.

  •  Deep marine sedimentation

  •  Method of local prediction of the lithological traps by electrometric models

  • Diagnostic signs of facies

Dr. Natalia Kukina

Dr. Natalia Kukina

Dr. Natalia Kukina holds a PhD in geology and mineralogy science fromthe P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Science. Dr. Natalia is internationally recognized as an energy expert with 30 years’ experience in worldwide hydrocarbon exploration and development, achieving a superior record of geological-geophysical success in the discovery of a several world-class oil & gas discoveries. She holds an associate professor position at the department of oil and gas affairs at Murmansk state Technical University, Geoscientist at research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. She has published about 70 scientific papers. Dr. Kukina has participated in the international marine Arctic expeditions and has been academic and professional instruction in geology and geophysics with the direction and management of high visibility, industry-funded international research program in petroleum geology, sedimentology, basin analysis and sequence stratigraphy.
