Borehole Images Applications (PPH 202)

COURSE OVERVIEW

Recognizing the importance of borehole images and their applications in the oil industry, this course is designed to cover the complete workflow of borehole image data processing, quality control (QC), and comprehensive interpretation. High-quality borehole image analysis can be calibrated to validate and refine petrophysical parameters. It also assists in selecting optimal intervals for sampling and serves as a fundamental input for geomechanical modeling related to drilling optimization, reservoir simulation, and wellbore stability analysis. The objective of this course is to provide participants with strong competency in borehole image interpretation techniques and geological feature recognition. Raw borehole image data are used throughout the course. Participants are guided step by step through the full interpretation and QC process, including reviewing and validating essential log curves, identifying geological features, manually picking features, characterizing fractures, determining stress orientation, performing structural dip analysis, conducting sedimentological interpretation, and understanding the applications of borehole images in petrophysics and geomechanics. Case studies and practical exercises are integrated throughout the course to ensure hands-on learning and practical understanding.

Imene Ferhat

Imene Ferhat has accumulated over 10 years of experience in borehole image interpretation, geomechanics, and geosciences. She joined Baker Hughes as a geoscientist, where she became certified in advanced borehole image interpretation and was recognized with awards for her dedication and professional contributions. She later progressed to the role of Team Lead, contributing to and delivering several integrated studies and geomechanical modeling projects for various companies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Imene subsequently joined the Algerian Institute of Petroleum (IAP) as an instructor, where she delivers seminars and workshops for engineers in the fields of borehole image interpretation and geomechanics. She recently published a study entitled “Fractures Characterization of the Cambro-Ordovician Reservoir of Hassi Messaoud,” addressing compartmentalization issues related to fault sealing in the periphery of the Hassi Messaoud field.
