Deepwater Exploration Management

COURSE OVERVIEW

Deepwater exploration requires a strategic and integrated approach to manage high costs, risks, and technical complexity. The course focuses on setting clear exploration strategies, long-term planning, and portfolio management in deepwater environments. It highlights key technical success factors such as data quality, seismic interpretation, and petroleum systems understanding. Emphasis is also placed on leadership, organizational structure, and effective decision-making under uncertainty. Participants gain practical insights into managing deepwater exploration projects and aligning technical, commercial, and strategic objectives.

INSTRUCTOR

Instructor Profile

Instructor have worked in exploration and early development roles from junior technical level to global VP, with most time spent in SE Asia, Australasia and Eastern Europe. He has direct experience of driving significant exploration successes in Malaysia and Romania in the past and understand the critical success factors. In Kearney Point Resources Ltd he is focusing on exploration strategy, management training, and subsurface technical advisory services.

FAQ

DESIGNED FOR

Senior geoscientists with (ca. 6-8 years' work experience) in geoscience fields and well-versed in seismic interpretation projects.

COURSE LEVEL

o Intermediate

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Participants will be exposed to hands-on extraction of geological and geophysical information from variable data types and integration of this information in order to produce a consistent subsurface model to support their work at regional, prospect or reservoir scale. "Let the data tell their story" is the key learning theme in this course.

The exercises are table-top and generally executed in team mode.

Report-out and discussion is a key learning tool.
