COURSE OVERVIEW

PetroTeach offers a four-day course in Drillstring Design. The course is designed to provide drilling and well engineers with the competency required to design a drillstring for various well types. Using both vertical and directional well profiles, participants are guided through the drillstring design process for different scenarios in accordance with current industry standards. The drillstring design is performed from first principles and supported by spreadsheet-based calculations, ensuring that participants develop a solid understanding of the underlying design concepts. The course begins with tubular properties and progressively covers the various drillstring components, enabling participants to complete a full drillstring design. Key mechanical aspects of drillstring performance—such as vibration, torque and drag, and wear—are thoroughly addressed to ensure these factors are properly considered in the design process. The final day of the course focuses on drillstring inspection and integrity management.
