COURSE OVERVIEW

This is a 5-day course designed to provide participants with a complete understanding of LNG commercial management, progressing logically from industry foundations through project fundamentals, pricing, financing, shipping, and future trends.
Day one provides LNG industry foundations and global markets, covering introduction to the LNG industry, the complete LNG value chain, global LNG production (liquefaction), global LNG demand (regasification), key players and market structure, and LNG’s role in energy transition.
Day two focuses on LNG project fundamentals and contracts, including LNG liquefaction plants, gas conditioning processes, LNG project management, fundamentals of Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA), Master Sales Agreement (MSA), Terminal Use Agreement (TUA), Heads of Agreement (HOA), and dispute resolution (arbitration vs litigation).
Day three addresses LNG pricing mechanisms and benchmarks, including oil-linked pricing (JCC and Brent), S-curves for sharing price risk, LNG physical and futures markets, hub-based pricing (JKM, TTF, Henry Hub, NBP) and spot price assessments, natural gas price setting mechanisms, and a workshop on LNG cargo pricing calculations.
Day four covers LNG project financing and risk management, including LNG commercial fundamentals, energy project economics, LNG project finance essentials, financing sources (ECAs, commercial banks, bonds, development banks), key project risks and mitigation, financial ratios and covenants, and a workshop on LNG project appraisal case study.
The final day concentrates on LNG shipping, logistics, and future trends, including LNG shipping contracts (charter parties), demurrage and detention, boil-off gas (BOG) management, storage and terminal operations, LNG custody transfer measurement, small-scale LNG and bunkering, future trends (carbon-neutral LNG, hydrogen, ammonia, methane regulation), and wrap-up and summary.

DESIGNED FOR

The course is designed for:

o Personnel working across the LNG industry, including but not limited to process and chemical engineers, who will benefit from understanding how each section of the LNG value chain functions. By seeing the bigger picture, they will discover how their specific role adds value – whether through optimizing plant operations, improving efficiency, reducing costs, or enhancing reliability – and how their decisions impact the commercial success of the entire LNG enterprise.
o LNG commercial managers, marketers, and business development professionals
o Project finance professionals, investment analysts, and bankers who evaluate LNG project viability, structure limited-recourse financing, and assess project risks
o Legal and contracts professionals who draft and negotiate LNG agreements, manage dispute resolution, and advise on regulatory compliance.
o Shipping and logistics managers responsible for LNG carrier chartering, storage terminal operations, and regasification scheduling.
o Commercial staff who would like to gain in-depth knowledge of the LNG business.
o Government regulators, energy policy advisors, and utility planners who oversee LNG import/export approvals, gas market liberalization, and energy security.
Some prior exposure to natural gas or energy markets is ideal but not a prerequisite. The course builds understanding from basic principles while providing practical tools that experienced participants can immediately apply

COURSE LEVEL

o   Intermediate to Advance

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this course, participants will be able to:
o Understand LNG industry foundations and global markets – Describe the complete LNG value chain, global liquefaction and regasification capacity, key players, market structure, and LNG's role in energy transition.
o Master LNG project fundamentals and contracts – Explain liquefaction plant operations, gas conditioning processes, LNG project management, and core agreements (SPA, MSA, TUA, HOA), including dispute resolution (arbitration vs litigation).
o Apply LNG pricing mechanisms and benchmarks – Differentiate between oil-linked pricing (JCC, Brent, S-curves), hub-based pricing (JKM, TTF, Henry Hub, NBP), spot price assessments, and natural gas price setting mechanisms; calculate LNG cargo prices under different formulas.
o Structure LNG project financing and manage risk – Understand LNG commercial fundamentals, energy project economics, project finance essentials, financing sources (ECAs, commercial banks, bonds, development banks), key project risks and mitigation, financial ratios and covenants.
o Manage LNG shipping, logistics, and custody transfer – Understand shipping contracts (charter parties), demurrage and detention, boil-off gas (BOG) management, storage and terminal operations, custody transfer measurement, and LNG bunkering.
