An essential part of safely producing oil, gas or any other subsurface fluid are the wells. A proper design of a well is key to the success of any field development plan. Lifecycle planning is an integral part of the well design and should take into consideration the changing well conditions. Typical items to take into consideration are: vertical lift with increasing water production, sand production, removal of deposits by means of well stimulation. This course will start with the basics of well inflow and outflow models, followed by artificial lift methods, sand control types and well stimulation options. Furthermore, it will address the issue of well integrity, the key items of surface facilities and finishes with an introduction of Production System Optimization.

Instructor has over 36 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with broad expertise in Petroleum Engineering and integrated production systems from subsurface to surface. He has held roles in Production Technology, R&D, Production Chemistry, Rock Mechanics, and Reservoir Engineering (cEOR), with strong experience in field development, well design, and production system optimization. He has worked internationally, including assignments in NAM, Oman, Gabon, and Nigeria. Passionate about teaching, he has served in Shell Learning and as a Learning & Development advisor, developing and delivering technical training programs. He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Physical Chemistry.

At the end of the course you will be able to understand the key aspects of the well and will have a clear view on what is involved in well design and well production optimization. You will have a better understanding of the selection criteria for well size, artificial lift and sand control completions. Special attention is given to integrated field development and operations in order to achieve a balanced reservoir/wells/surface facilities interplay aiming to assure efficient reservoir drainage, optimal well performance and effective separation of gas, oil and water. The course will be highly interactive and uses real life problems, including various syndicate exercises.
