COURSE OVERVIEW

The objective of the Well Test Analysis Workshop is to provide comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of well test interpretation techniques. Strong emphasis is placed on practical applications, with numerous class examples and real field case studies incorporated throughout the program. The course demonstrates how well test analysis is one of the most powerful tools in reservoir management for making realistic decisions related to reservoir development and production optimization. Both fundamental concepts and advanced interpretation methods are covered, using KAPPA (Saphir) software.

Advanced topics include analysis of multi-stage fractured horizontal wells (MFHWs), Diagnostic Fracture Injection Tests (DFIT), multiphase flow analysis, deconvolution, rate- and time-dependent skin factor evaluation, Inflow Control Devices (ICDs), flow behind casing, multilayer reservoirs, and other complex well conditions. To enhance hands-on learning, participants are encouraged to bring relevant well test data for analysis and discussion using commercial software. A scientific calculator is required for in-class problem-solving exercises. A detailed course manual will be provided as a comprehensive reference for future use.

INSTRUCTOR

Instructor Profile

Our instructor has over 35 years of diversified experience in the petroleum industry in Western Canada and internationally, including projects in Yemen, Libya, Egypt, Nigeria, Iraq, Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador.

His expertise is in Reservoir Engineering with emphasis on field development planning, evaluation of depletion strategies, and production optimization of a wide spectrum of oil and gas fields. He has evaluated and initiated horizontal well applications that resulted in a remarkable increase in production levels.

He also has a special interest in well test planning and analysis using state-of-the-art software (F.A.S.T by Fekete and PanSystem). He has been involved in all phases of implementing secondary and tertiary recovery schemes.

He has extensive experience in technical and economic evaluations of oil and gas properties for acquisition and divestiture ventures. He has conducted numerous technical presentations to the Petroleum Society of the CIM and various training courses to the industry.

Special Award Recipient

He received the “Immigrant of Distinction” Award, in the business category, for the year 2008 in Alberta, Canada.
